The exhibition ‘Mannequins : from the artist’s studio to fetish object’ at the Bourdelle Museum in Paris retraces the history of this ‘Unsettling strange’ studio secret until July 12th, 2015.
With its dramatic design this exhibition includes rare artist’s mannequins dating from the 18th century to present day including Pascal and Pascaline.
Made by Maison Sennelier they were the two favorite mannequins of Elsa Schiaparelli who showcased this couple made of wood in her shop windows of the 21 place Vendôme and even ‘married’ them. All Paris marveled at their surrealistic displays and they rapidly became the mascots of the Schiaparelli Haute Couture seamstresses.
The exhibition is lifting the veil on the relationship between artist and mannequin with nearly 160 exhibits.
of the House of Schiaparelli
Bertrand Guyon brings his creative energy to the Schiaparelli team, comprised of the design studio and the atelier both located 21, place Vendôme, the very same historical couture house where Elsa Schiaparelli used to work. He will develop the brand’s design where couture rhymes with art and innovation.
« Elsa Schiaparelli is an enchanting couture house. I have always been fascinated by its exceptional legacy, its luminous and intimate story, its quirky and poetic world, its ultimate chic and its endless creativity. I feel honored to be part of Schiaparelli today and develop it further, respecting its heritage and tradition while adding a contemporary and modern take, something Elsa Schiaparelli has always demonstrated. » says Bertrand Guyon.
The first Schiaparelli collection orchestrated by Bertrand Guyon will be presented in Paris next July during Haute Couture week.
From October 26, 2014 to April 26, 2015, London’s Design Museum presents “Women Fashion Power” - an exhibition exploring how women created and/or used fashion to express themselves and to assert their influence in their field of activity and beyond.
The show includes the August 13th, 1934 issue of TIME magazine with Elsa Schiaparelli on its cover. She was the very first female fashion designer to grace the front-page of the iconic American weekly (see picture). The feature story introduces her as ‘one of the arbiters of ultra-modern Haute Couture.’
Throughout her entire life, Elsa Schiaparelli has been an independent strong woman and a daring creative force.
Her innovative ideas led her to establish Schiaparelli as an iconic fashion brand in less than 30 years.
From her inventive imagination and revolutionary visions on sportswear, Haute Couture, art, ordinary-elements-turned-into-elaborate creations, prints, colors, shapes, fashion and fragrances, the House of Schiaparelli has commissioned Dutch film maker Christian Borstlap to re-interpret the essence of Elsa Schiaparelli’s famous firsts into a contemporary animated film.
