From September 13, 2014 to January 3, 2015 New York’s Museum at FIT presents “Danse & Fashion”: an exhibition exploring the relationship and influences of both artistic disciplines.
The selection is a deep foray into fashion seen through another stage. It includes pieces from the 19th century Romantic ballets, the early 20th century Ballets Russes, contemporary fashion designers creating costumes for the Paris Opera, the New York City Ballet or modern dance companies (such as the Martha Graham or the Merce Cunningham Dance Companies) to many more.
A section dedicated to flamenco displays a mid-1930s Schiaparelli evening gown in light blue silk with wired pintucks and interior multi-coloured ruffles at flared hem (see picture).
