This portrait of Elsa Schiaparelli by George Hoyningen-Huene shows one of the dresses from her Autumn 1932 Haute Couture collection, which was one of the biggest successes of the early 1930s.
The ankle-length gown was of white ciré peau d’ange jersey cut in the style of a garden apron, with narrow straps crossing at the back and little pockets at the front, over which the designer wore a lei of white coq feathers.
